Blue Sky: Remake

Posted by Tati on Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at 8:08 am

That’s the remake of Blue Sky, the sketch I posted here at the early days of this blog. Everything in this picture is digital: painting, drawing, etc. I really need to improve the control of my optical pen (my tablet is a Wacom Bamboo Fun), but I believe I’m doing good for a beginner.

Do You Want Some Coffee?

Posted by Tati on Saturday, January 9th, 2010 at 5:14 am

One of my sketchbook’s doodles with a little of digital colors. Yeah, sometimes I have crazy ideas… Mainly when I am drinking coffee.
So, how about you? What do you do under the effects of caffeine?

Playing With Stencils!

Posted by Tati on Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 at 9:42 pm

One of things I want to do is selling t-shirts painted or printed by myself. I just didn’t know how: hand-painted or screen-printed.
Then I researched about them on internet and watched great tutorials on YouTube – you can learn everything you want there! Paint tees is easy (it’s just paint a t-shirt with fabric paints), but it’s a hard work, you have to create unique pieces, and charge a little expensive price for it. Hand-painted t-shirts are good for commissions, I believe. Screen-printing is the best choice, but unfortunately there’s no space in my apartment for all those frames and equipments… So, googling more, I found something very interesting: Stencils!
This stenciling technique seems to work more with spray. However, I can’t use sprays on home, because of Dexter – he follows me everywhere (even my canvas paintings are protected with liquid varnish). Using paints on stencil is messy. The paint can’t be wet and there’s also an special brush for that. I bought this brush, but it didn’t work too – or I didn’t use it correctly. Then, I tried a roller and it worked perfectly! To make my stencils, I am using laser film – I had a job years ago in a Print Shop, and got some of those transparent paper -, and I cut my designs carefully with a craft knife. Don’t think it’s hard to do… actually it’s funny!

Stencils are recommendable for t-shirts and walls. I tried to paint with acrylic on paper, but… Ok, no more experiences! If you’re interested to learn, search on Google or YouTube for “Stencil Painting” or “Stencil Printing”. You’ll find a lot of how-to-do sites.
Well… It’s time to print some t-shirts! I can’t wait to post them here!
[edit] I just found this video that shows exactly the roller technique I am “blogging” about.

Happy New Year!

Posted by Tati on Thursday, December 31st, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Today is the last day of 2009! This year was really important to me, because it was a year of learning. Now, 2010 is going to be a year of change (life and art)… Hope so.
Dexter, Qua-Quack Duck and I want to wish you a Happy New Year! \o/

Trying To Take Photos

Posted by Tati on Wednesday, December 30th, 2009 at 11:52 pm

Just sharing my another failed experience… Now I’m trying to take photos of my already-done painting, My Balloon. Yeah, I’m not good at photography. No matter how professional I am (as graphic designer) but all my Photoshop skills aren’t helping me to disguise my bad shots. And I have a good camera: a Sony Cyber-Shot, 10.1 Mega Pixels, with Smile Shutter and everything else! Well… After reading some tutorials on internet, I’ll try again. Wish me luck, folks! XD

Meet Dexter, the Shih Tzu

Posted by Tati on Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 at 5:13 am

This cute dog is Dexter, my 11 months old Shih Tzu. Fernando and I don’t have kids; we’re still a young couple and aren’t feeling ready to have a child yet. So, we got him when he was just a 45 days old puppy and since then we know the real meaning of love. And… Yes: his full name is Dexter Morgan!

Oh, and today is still 29th… Why is 2010 taking so long to begin?
I’m so excited because I love New Year’s Day and that’s our first celebration with our baby Dexter!

Merry Xmas!

Posted by Tati on Friday, December 25th, 2009 at 4:45 am

That’s the Christmas card I made for you, my readers and friends. Honestly I’m atheist and don’t celebrate it, but… Well, that’s a worldwide holiday anyway, and everyone is happy!
It’s also that time of the year which we spread love and peace… then, don’t forget to do it everyday, folks.
Speaking about that… I live in a city called Natal.
So… Feliz Natal, Feliz Navidad and Merry Xmas!

I Dreamed I Was Flying!

Posted by Tati on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009 at 9:09 pm

A couple of nights ago, finally I had a dream. “Finally”, because usually I don’t remember my dreams, just sleep and wake up. Yeah, that’s weird… That’s me. :P
I dreamed I was flying and traveling through Brazil… From Rio Grande do Norte (where I live) to Rio Grande do Sul.
So real! I felt the wind in my face and hands! And I was not flying like Superman… I did as if I really would have the power of flying… Not speedy, just normal: stopping in all brazilian states, resting in hotels, eating and meeting new people. When I opened my eyes and realized it was just a dream, I cried. As I told you, it was very, very real!
Perhaps it means that I’m a kind of person who needs a little more freedom.

Red Haired…

Posted by Tati on Saturday, December 19th, 2009 at 9:02 pm

Did you like my cute character, Qua-Quack Duck? Well, I will post more comics strips soon. And what about the sketch above?
As you can see on sidebar, I am an artist and also a housewife. That’s a really hard combination. I’m trying to find a little time to work in my creations, but unfortunately I have to keep house. A maid? I don’t trust maids… Oh, I can’t forget to mention about my english and drawing lessons. Study by myself isn’t easy!
Changing the subject, let me share a link: Viet-My Bui’s illustrations – she’s a very lovely artist.
